You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits obtainable from your local department of transportation.
Temporary operation permits have been released since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are permitted to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from one day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain regulations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Oversize permits are also given out on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes above the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limitations are then depended weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.

A Wide load permit is required to be secured by pilot cars not exceeding 5,500 kg in gross vehicle weight, and are allowed for single commercial transportation when the length of load being transported exceeds 27.5 meter and width exceeds 3.2 meters. The pilot car needs to mount on its roof top a sign of Long Load, Wide Load or Oversize Load to warn other passing by vehicles.
