The heavy-duty vehicles and loads connecteded with commercial trucking services are generally required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the limits as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be reduced in their size and can not be transported other than by road are demanded to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits have to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads beyond normal legal limits. You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and types of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can acquire them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation activities for anywhere from one day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain constraints to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are carrying loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are required to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be reduced in size. These permits are obtained upon written application from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are provided not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size need to be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also given out on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain limitations on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that goes beyond the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight boundaries are then relied on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
