The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are generally required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, act out their business as per the limitations as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lowered in their size and can not be transported other than by road are demanded to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than just normal legal limits. You can get more relevant information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been released since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can attain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation projects for anywhere from one day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain restrictions to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are carrying loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation tasks on public highways are obligated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be decreased in size. These permits are obtained upon written appeal from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The details of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size have to be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also assigned on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that goes over the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, as opposed to considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restrictions are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
