California Oversize Permit

Picture of On the Go Transportation [Major] [Minor] and Trip Permit
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are basically required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the restrictions as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be reduced in their size and can not be transported other than by road are required to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads over normal legal limits. You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated time period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can acquire them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation projects for anywhere from one day to two weeks through this permit, but there are certain limitations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are delivering loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation activities on public highways are mandated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be decreased in size. These permits are obtained upon written inquiry from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are available not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The information of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size should be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also provided on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain limits on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes above the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limitations are then depended weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
