Image of On the Go Transportation [Major] [Minor] and One Trip Permits
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are ultimately required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the constraints as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lowered in their size and can not be transported other than by road are asked to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits should be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads greater than normal legal limits. You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can acquire them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are permitted to perform general transportation tasks for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain restrictions to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are carrying loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation tasks on public highways are mandated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be decreased in size. These permits are obtained upon written appeal from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported alongside reasons of non-reducible size have to be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also assigned on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of this transportation permit. A load that exceeds the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, instead of considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restrictions are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
