Delaware Oversize Permits

Photo of On the Go Transportation [Major] [Minor] and Truck Permit
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are essentially required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, perform their business as per the limitations as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lowered in their size and can not be transported other than by road are demanded to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits should be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads over normal legal limits. You can get more facts about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been circulated since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can attain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are permitted to perform general transportation activities for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain stipulations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are shipping loads of excessive size or weight above legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are needed to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be reduced in size. These permits can be obtained upon written application from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are obtainable not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size should be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also assigned on the basis of axle size of the vehicle, as there are certain limits on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes beyond the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limitations are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.

A Wide load permit is required to be attained by pilot cars not exceeding 5,500 kg in gross vehicle weight, and are authorized for single commercial transportation when the length of load being transported exceeds 27.5 meter and width exceeds 3.2 meters. The pilot car must mount on its roof top a sign of Long Load, Wide Load or Oversize Load to warn other passing by vehicles.
