The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are ultimately required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, act out their business as per the restrictions as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be decreased in their size and can not be transported other than by road are demanded to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits should be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than normal legal limits. You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and varieties of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can acquire them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks through this permit, but there are certain stipulations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are carrying loads of excessive size or weight beyond legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are required to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits may be obtained upon written appeal from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are obtainable not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The information of the commodity being transported in addition to reasons of non-reducible size must be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also provided on the basis of axle size of the auto, as there are certain limits on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that goes above the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight boundaries are then relied on weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.
