Georgia Oversize Permit

Image of On the Go Transportation [Major] [Minor]
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are basically required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, perform their business as per the constraints as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lowered in their size and can not be transported other than by road are asked to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads beyond normal legal limits. You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and types of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are permitted to perform general transportation endeavors for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain constraints to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are delivering loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation tasks on public highways are needed to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be reduced in size. These permits may be obtained upon written request from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are obtainable not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size should be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also released on the basis of axle size of the vehicle, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes above the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight boundaries are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.
