Kentucky Oversize Permits

The heavy-duty vehicles and loads connecteded with commercial trucking services are ultimately required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the limits as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be decreased in their size and can not be transported other than by road are demanded to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits should be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than normal legal limits. You can get more relevant information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and varieties of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been released since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated time period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation projects for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks through this permit, but there are certain regulations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are moving loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are obligated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits are obtained upon written inquiry from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are provided not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size must be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also given out on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain restrictions on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that goes above the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, instead of considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restrictions are then relied on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.

A Wide load permit is required to be secured by pilot cars not exceeding 5,500 kg in gross vehicle weight, and are permitted for single commercial transportation when the length of load being transported exceeds 27.5 meter and width exceeds 3.2 meters. The pilot car needs to mount on its roof top a sign of Long Load, Wide Load or Oversize Load to warn other passing by vehicles.
