The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are basically required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, perform their business as per the constraints as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lessened in their size and can not be transported other than by road are asked to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits should be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than just normal legal limits. You can get more relevant information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and varieties of transportation permits attainable from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been given out since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can get them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are enabled to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from one day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain restrictions to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are transporting loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation activities on public highways are mandated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be decreased in size. These permits may be obtained upon written appeal from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The details of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size will need to be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also issued on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain limitations on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that surpasses the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restricts are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.
