The heavy-duty vehicles and loads connecteded with commercial trucking services are generally required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, perform their business as per the limits as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be minimized in their size and can not be transported other than by road are asked to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits must be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads beyond normal legal limits. You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and sorts of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been provided since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated time period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are enabled to perform general transportation activities for anywhere from one day to two weeks through this permit, but there are certain restrictions to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are transporting loads of excessive size or weight beyond legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are required to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits may be obtained upon written application from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are available not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size need to be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also released on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain restrictions on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that surpasses the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limitations are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
