North Carolina IFTA Forms
Before the introduction IFTA, commercial vehicles and trucks would need particular tax permits for each of the states that they were driving through. Port-of-Entry collection stations were erected so as to gather the tax owed according to that states own private fuel tax laws. This created more work for the states and stalled interstate commerce for trucking corporations. When registering for the IFTA, you should take into consideration your vehicle type, location, and tax preparation method.
When you subscribe for IFTA you will do so in a specific province, for instance the state of California. It will be in this jurisdiction that you file your IFTA fuel report and acquire either your tax refund or pay any fuel tax owed. The jurisdiction which you need to register for IFTA can be where the qualifying motor vehicle is registered, where you have an established physical place of business, or where you file the operational records for that qualifying vehicle. The exact form number that you need to seek will depend on the legal system that your applying in. On your fuel tax report form you should record any jurisdictions entering the IFTA that you have traveled through and the fuel that you paid for in that jurisdiction.

To establish if your vehicle meets the requirements and can participate in the IFTA, you should have what is called a qualifying vehicle. A qualifying vehicle is one that moves either people or commercial goods. It should also meet the following requirements: have 3 axles or more, or have 2 axles or more and weigh beyond 26,000 lbs, or when used as a combination and weigh more than 26,000 lbs. You should contact the motor carrier vehicle section of that jurisdiction and ask to make an application for an IFTA license and decals to display on your auto. Once complete, you should submit it to the regulating body with the required processing fee. Assuming that you meet the standards for IFTA, you will be issued with the correct license and decals. You are now registered to enter into the IFTA program.

IFTA significantly simplified the payment of fuel tax for trucks traveling through more than one state. It is important to be sure that you remain in compliance with IFTA regulations. Penalties and fines could be applied to commercial vehicles and trucks which are not adequately registered or who do not file the fuel tax report forms on the due dates.
