The heavy-duty vehicles and loads connecteded with commercial trucking services are essentially required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, act out their business as per the restrictions as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lowered in their size and can not be transported other than by road are asked to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits must be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than normal legal limits. You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and varieties of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can secure them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain limitations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are shipping loads of excessive size or weight beyond legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are obligated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be minimized in size. These permits may be obtained upon written appeal from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are available not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported in addition to reasons of non-reducible size must be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also given out on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain limits on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that goes beyond the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, as opposed to considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight caps are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.
