Pennsylvania Trip Permit
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are essentially required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, produce their business as per the constraints as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lessened in their size and can not be transported other than by road are required to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads greater than normal legal limits. You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and types of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.
Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation projects for anywhere from one day to two weeks through this permit, but there are certain limitations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are moving loads of excessive size or weight beyond legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are required to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits are obtained upon written application from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The details of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size will need to be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also provided on the basis of axle size of the auto, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that exceeds the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, instead of considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limits are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.

A Wide load permit is required to be obtained by pilot cars not exceeding 5,500 kg in gross vehicle weight, and are allowed for single commercial transportation when the length of load being transported exceeds 27.5 meter and width exceeds 3.2 meters. The pilot car will need to mount on its roof top a sign of Long Load, Wide Load or Oversize Load to warn other travelling by vehicles. Oversize vehicles with loads of 3.2 meters width or under 3.5 meters width are exempted for this type of transportation permit if they operate during daylight, but for wider loads this permit is essential.
