The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are basically required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, produce their business as per the constraints as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be reduced in their size and can not be transported other than by road are demanded to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits have to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads beyond normal legal limits. You can get more information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and types of transportation permits readily available from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been provided since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can get them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are enabled to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from one day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain stipulations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are transporting loads of excessive size or weight above legal limits and are busy in operating transportation tasks on public highways are mandated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits can be obtained upon written inquiry from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The information of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size will need to be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also assigned on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain limits on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes over the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, instead of considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restrictions are then depended weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.
