South Carolina Oversize Permits

Image of On the Go Transportation [Major] [Minor] and Transportation Permit
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are ultimately required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, produce their business as per the restrictions as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lessened in their size and can not be transported other than by road are asked to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads beyond normal legal limits. You can get more details about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and kinds of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been provided since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can secure them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are enabled to perform general transportation activities for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks through this permit, but there are certain limitations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are carrying loads of excessive size or weight above legal limits and are busy in operating transportation tasks on public highways are obligated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits can be obtained upon written request from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The particulars of the commodity being transported along with reasons of non-reducible size should be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also released on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of this transportation permit. A load that exceeds the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restricts are then relied on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
