Truck Permits Trucking Services
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are generally required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, perform their business as per the limitations as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be reduced in their size and can not be transported other than by road are required to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than just normal legal limits. You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.
Temporary operation permits have been provided since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can get them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are permitted to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain constraints to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are transporting loads of excessive size or weight above legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are obligated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits may be obtained upon written inquiry from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The details of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size have to be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also assigned on the basis of axle size of the truck, as there are certain restrictions on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes over the limit per-axle is considered as being over-weighted or oversized, as opposed to considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limitations are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.

A Wide load permit is required to be obtained by pilot cars not exceeding 5,500 kg in gross vehicle weight, and are authorized for single commercial transportation when the length of load being transported exceeds 27.5 meter and width exceeds 3.2 meters. The pilot car has to mount on its roof top a sign of Long Load, Wide Load or Oversize Load to warn other passing by vehicles. Oversize vehicles with loads of 3.2 meters width or short of 3.5 meters width are exempted for this form of transportation permit if they operate during daylight, but for wider loads this permit is vital.
