The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are basically required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the limits as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be minimized in their size and can not be transported other than by road are required to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than normal legal limits. You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and kinds of transportation permits attainable from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been provided since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated time period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can acquire them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation projects for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain constraints to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are delivering loads of excessive size or weight beyond legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are required to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits can be obtained upon written inquiry from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are obtainable not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The information of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size need to be provided with the application of this permit.

Oversize permits are also issued on the basis of axle size of the car, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need concerning this transportation permit. A load that exceeds the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight caps are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
