West Virginia Oversize Load Permit
The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are ultimately required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the constraints as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lowered in their size and can not be transported other than by road are required to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits will need to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization involved in commercial trucking services if they transport loads greater than normal legal limits. You can get more information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and varieties of transportation permits available from your local department of transportation.
Temporary operation permits have been given out since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated time period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can acquire them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation tasks for anywhere from one day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain limitations to use this permit for commercial activities.

These permits are obtained upon written application from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are obtainable not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. Oversize permits are also given out on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of the transportation permit. A load that goes over the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight boundaries are then depended weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.

A Wide load permit is required to be secured by pilot cars not exceeding 5,500 kg in gross vehicle weight, and are authorized for single commercial transportation when the length of load being transported exceeds 27.5 meter and width exceeds 3.2 meters. The pilot car has to mount on its roof top a sign of Long Load, Wide Load or Oversize Load to warn other passing by vehicles. Oversize vehicles with loads of 3.2 meters width or beneath 3.5 meters width are exempted for this form of transportation permit if they operate during daytime, but for wider loads this permit is essential.
