The heavy-duty vehicles and loads associateded with commercial trucking services are ultimately required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, execute their business as per the limitations as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be lessened in their size and can not be transported other than by road are needed to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits have to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads more than just normal legal limits. You can get more relevant information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and kinds of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are enabled to perform general transportation ventures for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain constraints to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are shipping loads of excessive size or weight above legal limits and are busy in operating transportation ventures on public highways are mandated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be lowered in size. These permits may be obtained upon written application from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are obtainable not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but for wider vehicles also. The specifics of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size must be provided with the application of this permit.

A load that surpasses the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, instead of considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight restricts are then relied on weight limits per-axle to become eligible for this permit.
