The heavy-duty vehicles and loads involved in commercial trucking services are basically required to, under the Act 300 of Michigan Vehicle Code (MVC) of Public Acts of 1949, perform their business as per the limitations as established by this Act. The vehicles and loads that can not be minimized in their size and can not be transported other than by road are required to obtain permits from the reigon’s local Department of Transportation (DOT). All transportation permits have to be obtained from State Transport Authorities by any individual or organization associateded with commercial trucking services if they transport loads greater than normal legal limits. You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and forms of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been released since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated period of time, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can obtain them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are allowed to perform general transportation activities for anywhere from one day to two weeks with this permit, but there are certain regulations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Vehicles and trucks that are transporting loads of excessive size or weight over legal limits and are busy in operating transportation activities on public highways are obligated to obtain oversize permits when their loads that can not be decreased in size. These permits are obtained upon written appeal from the Commercial Transport section of Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch. Oversize permits are offered not only for the vehicles or loads that are 4.4 meters wide, but also for wider vehicles also. The specifics of the commodity being transported coupled with reasons of non-reducible size should be provided with the application of the permit.

Oversize permits are also assigned on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain constraints on the load-per-axle to assess the need of this transportation permit. A load that goes above the limit per-axle is considered to be over-weighted or oversized, as opposed to considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight limits are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
