You can get more related information about the legally-permitted sizes of vehicles and varieties of transportation permits provided from your local department of transportation.

Temporary operation permits have been issued since 1992. If a business only needs a permit to operate over a designated time period, Temporary Testing, Demonstration, and Temporary Operation Permits may be required. You can get them from all the outlets of Auto plan and any government inspection stations (weigh scales). You are permitted to perform general transportation endeavors for anywhere from 1 day to two weeks using this permit, but there are certain limitations to use this permit for commercial activities.

Oversize permits are also given out on the basis of axle size of the automobile, as there are certain restrictions on the load-per-axle to assess the need of this transportation permit. A load that goes over the limit per-axle is considered as over-weighted or oversized, rather than considering the overall weight of the load. Suppose your commercial vehicle transports construction machinery, pre-built homes, construction materials, or containers. It’s weight caps are then calculated on weight limits per-axle to be eligible for this permit.
